Amid the Ruins, a Dialogue Suspended in Time
Rooted in the critical lens of Future Archaeology, Cream & Bean translates classical fluted column relics, monolithic stone plinths, and excavated architectural fragments into a contemporary sanctuary for specialty coffee and artisanal gelato in Taipei. By staging a deliberate tectonic confrontation between hand-troweled weathered geological surfaces, localized exposed reinforcing steel, and razor-sharp stainless-steel extraction instruments beneath a diffused luminous membrane sky, FORSPACE STUDIO crafts a space suspended across eras—inviting guests into a tactile dialogue between transience and preservation.

A Fissure in Time: Future Archaeology as Spatial Narrative

What we once assumed to be ordinary and unshakable in urban life can quietly slip away with the passage of time. Cream & Bean is conceived as an architectural inquiry into the delicate tension between past and future, transience and preservation. Drawing inspiration from classical Roman ruins and the speculative lens of Future Archaeology, FORSPACE STUDIO translates fluted column drums, monolithic stone plinths, and fragmented architectural mouldings into a contemporary sanctuary for specialty coffee and gelato. Rather than adhering to the conventional commercial logic of a retail storefront, the interior presents itself as an excavated archaeological site suspended across eras—inviting visitors to pause before fragile, cherished rituals fade into history.

Weathered Geological Relics Meet Contemporary Precision

Throughout the interior envelope, multi-layered specialty mineral coatings are hand-applied to cultivate uneven, porous, and weathered geological surfaces that register the weight of time. Localized sections of exposed structural reinforcing steel at the ceiling junctions and embedded classical cornice fragments lend a palpable sense of temporal erosion and deliberate incompletion. Set against these tactile ruins, a razor-sharp stainless-steel service counter and a linear array of precision cold-brew extraction towers introduce a striking contemporary counterpoint. This dialogue between rough mineral mass and crisp metallic engineering mirrors the brand’s core philosophy: holding purity and sensory eternity still before things melt away.

Sculptural Monolithic Plinths and Adaptable Void

Instead of conventional café tables and loose chairs, custom monolithic furniture and sculptural stone-like blocks anchor the floor plan, organizing seating ledges, display plinths, and circulation paths with architectural restraint. Seating is kept intentionally pared back to encourage brief moments of contemplative stillness while preserving spatial adaptability for cross-disciplinary music sessions and cultural gatherings. Cantilevered horizontal planes intersect vertical stone fragments with surgical precision, maintaining a disciplined balance between mass and void.

Diffused Celestial Light and Tactile Thresholds

Overhead, an expansive luminous membrane ceiling casts soft, shadowless zenithal illumination across the room, revealing the subtle surface relief of the fluted column relics, carved benches, and mineral plaster walls. The tectonic language extends down to the finest physical touchpoints: a custom entrance door pull pairing a rough-hewn stone block with a crisp blackened-steel frame, and a narrow threshold archway interrupted by a fractured stone spring-line—bridging visual and tactile perception across the threshold of time.
